Somalia: Govt forces detain and life-threaten Shabelle journalists.


Mogadishu 15, Sept.07 ( Sh.M.Network)- Forces from the transitional government of Somalia have forcibly entered the premises of Shabelle media Network, taking out journalists doing their routine job while accusing them of throwing hand grenades targeted at the police.
The forces have ordered all the personnel of the radio station to get out the building threatening that anyone rejects their would be shot dead on the spot.
“Two angry soldiers carrying their loaded guns entered the radio station asking where other journalists are”said Ifrah Abdi Samad while shaking with fear at the main gate of the radio station.After all journalists were paraded outside the radio, the soldiers released two female journalist, Sahro Yusuf Mohamed and Ifrah Abdisamad, all other male journalists were ordered to come with the soldiers along Aden Ae road down to Villa Somalia, the presidential palace where Somali president Mr. Abdullahi Yusuf stays.
The arrested journalists were 16 journalists including acting chairman of the radio, Mr. Bashir Nur Gedi who was at the office at the time of the Government forces raided Shabelle Radio.Lastly, the journalists were taken to the headquarter of the criminal investigation where they held for two hours and half while once one of the soldiers carrying heavy machinegun told them to line up threatening that he was going to kill them.
“The senior people at the headquarter ordered our release after two hours and half which really meant us ten hard years” said one journalist who refuses his name to be revealed as the journalists were told not to air or cover anything about their detention by the government.
Shabelle Media Network which is the most popular independent media house in Somalia has been a constant victim of threats, closures by Somalia’s government

There is no government forces, these are Tigreianin factions and TFG factuion raping our women, killing our children, and now they are putting pressuring of the media for not to report their crime.
